About Root & Linen Studio
The Meaning Behind Root & Linen
The name Root & Linen speaks to both where we begin and where we hope to go. Root represents grounding, connection, and a return to what feels essential. Linen reflects softness, simplicity, natural beauty, and the character of things that become more meaningful with time.
While our story begins with handmade candles and goods for the home, our vision extends beyond a single product category. We see Root & Linen Studio growing slowly into a broader lifestyle brand—one expressed through thoughtfully curated objects, spaces, and experiences.
As the studio evolves, our purpose will remain the same: to create a world that feels warm, considered, and deeply personal, and to inspire a more intentional way of living.
Growing Slowly, With Intention
Root & Linen Studio is beginning close to home. For now, our collections are available locally throughout the Santa Cruz and Monterey Bay area as we introduce the studio through select boutiques, seasonal markets, and community gatherings.
This local beginning is an intentional part of our story—giving us the space to build meaningful relationships, refine our work, and allow the brand to grow with care.
As Root & Linen evolves, we look forward to bringing our collections online and welcoming a wider community into the world we are creating. Until then, we invite you to follow along as we share where to find and experience The Quiet Season in person.
What We Create
At Root & Linen Studio, we create handmade goods designed to bring warmth, atmosphere, and intention into the everyday.
Beginning with hand-poured candles, our work is inspired by wabi-sabi, the organic ease of the California coast, and the beauty of natural materials and softened, imperfect forms. Each piece is thoughtfully made to feel tactile, grounding, and quietly beautiful.
We believe the objects we live with can shape the way a space feels and the way we move through our daily routines. Our hope is to create pieces that encourage pause, presence, and a deeper appreciation for the small rituals of home.
Purpose, Continued.
At Root & Linen Studio, we believe thoughtful design should extend beyond a product’s first purpose. Every piece is considered not only for how it lives in your home today, but for how it may continue to serve you over time.
Our candle vessels and lids are intentionally created with a second life in mind. Once the final flame has burned, the vessel can be reimagined as a planter, catchall, or storage piece, while the lid becomes a simple, functional coaster. We are also developing a candle refill option, offering another way to extend the life of the vessel and continue enjoying it as originally intended. These details are not an afterthought—they are part of the design from the beginning.
By designing for repurpose and continued use, we aim to create pieces that feel less temporary and more considered—objects worth keeping, reusing, and allowing to evolve naturally within your home.
For us, intentional design means creating with purpose beyond the moment: fewer disposable objects, more lasting function, and a more thoughtful relationship with the things we choose to bring into our spaces.
